Spinoff unites 'iCarly,' 'Victorious' duo

Tyke fans of Nickelodeon‘s “iCarly” bade farewell to the series last week, but the cabler already has a spinoff waiting in the wings.

Nickelodeon has picked up “Sam & Cat” to series, ordering 20 episodes from Nick vet and “iCarly” and “Victorious” creator Dan Schneider. Laffer centers on Sam Puckett of “iCarly” and Cat Valentine of “Victorious” as they become roomates and start an after-school babysitting biz. Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande will reprise their roles as Sam and Cat, respectively.

“Sam & Cat” will begin lensing in January and preem next year.

“Jennette and Ariana are adored by our audience, and it’s great to unite these talented actresses in this hilarious new comedy from Dan Schneider,” said Russell Hicks, president of content development and production at Nickelodeon. “This show promises to deliver on what our audience loves most about these two favorite characters — laugh-out-loud humor and non-stop adventure, and is sure to be a compelling new chapter for our new comedic duo.”

Scribe-producer Schneider has built a rep for spinoff series at the cabler. After creating “The Amanda Show” with Amanda Bynes in 1999, Schneider then launched successful spinoff “Drake & Josh” in 2004, two years after “Amanda” was cancelled. Similarly, Schneider was the showrunner on Nickelodeon sketch comedy series “All That,” which begat the series “Kenan & Kel” featuring “All That” cast members Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell.
