As a guest you're less restricted by rules and traditions, so you can go as wild as you'd like. That said, it's wise to take note from the environment you'll find yourself in. For example, if it's a beach wedding consider wedges or flat sandals to avoid sinking into the sand, but if it's more of a Black Tie affair then you'll be wanting something classic, pointy and elegant.

If you're not used to walking in heels, it's a wise idea to opt for something around the two to three-inch mark with a block heel instead of stilettos. This should prolong the amount of time you can stand and dance in them and mean you won't need to dig your flip flops out of your clutch bag until the very end of the night.
